DESCRIPTION

01

A work in progress short film serving as an introduction to a future project.

WAKING

02—2

I woke up from a dream last night. In the dead of winter, sweat glistened on my brow.

FADING

02—3

As I shook and shivered, I felt it slip through my fingers, and its warmth faded quickly from my body.

FROWNING

02—4

I recalled I had seen my mother smile. I felt guilty. She was my age in that photo.

STARING

02—5

My head turned to the window, a pair of eyes stared back at me. Dull and tired.

LIMPING

02—6

My knees creaked as I stood. When I stepped, so did she. Our blankets gathered around our feet.

SCREAMING

02—7

My breath fogged the glass, and into this mist she dissapeared. I am alone once again.

SLEEPING

02—8

I crawled back in bed, and shut my eyes as tight as they would go. I hoped I'd dream about something else.

PROCESS

As of writing this, on 02/28/25, four weeks have been spent on this project. It was integral to find solutions that would allow me to work quickly, as my time frame is short. I utilized the JangaFX suite (Liquigen, Embergen, and Geogen) for my simluation work, as it allowed for real time simulation. Where I could, I'd render inside of Unreal Engine 5 or Blender Eevee, so that I didn't have to wait for renders and could focus on art direction.

The first image is an unlit shot of the forest scene. I wanted to push this composition, hard. It's shot on an 8mm lens and I nudged the trees into just the right resting spot to form a guiding line towards the sky.

As someone who has relied a lot on a long focal length lens before, I wanted to push myself to experiment with other types of lens's. I want to try and consider real life film making dilemmas when crafting my shots, as it allows me to think like a director instead of a computer guy.

Note the candid "auto-save" shot as well. Unreal Engine is truly capable of beautiful images.
